Jayaraj Rajasekharan Nair is a critically acclaimed Indian filmmaker who has directed 37 films during the last two decades. His OTTAL (The Trap) won the prestigious Crystal Bear at Berlinale in 2016. An Electronics and Telecommications graduate, his interest in films took his life in a new direction and in 1986 he finally met his mentor in Bharathan, the renowned Malayalam film maker and their association began with Chilambu and extended upto Vaishali (1988) the national award winning movie.
Jayaraj has to his credit accolades from India and around the globe. Apart from the Crystal Bear in Berlinale 2016 for his film, Ottaal (The Trap), he is a six time National award winner and also the only director to have won both the Golden Peacock and Golden Crow Pheasant at the International Film Festival of India and International Film Festival of Kerala respectively.
Over the years, he has made 37 films in various Indian languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Veeram, is also the fifth film in the nine-film series based on the Navarasas, that he started work in 1999 with Karunam. His film, Adbutham, holds place in the Limca Book of Records for completing shoot in two hours and 14 minutes, the fastest shot feature film with a single camera ever and his 2011 film, The Train, also is in the Records for being a film were the conversation of all its characters are via phone.
Besides his work in the field of art, Jayaraj is also the founder of Word Organisation of Hope (WOH), headquartered at Geneva, an organisation aimed at building children's awareness of their rights. To support children and adolescents in their own struggle to secure and defend their dreams, and to open their doors to a world of opportunities and hope WOH has devised the programme SMART [Sports, Music, Art and Recreation Therapy (Yoga and Meditation)]. Apart from these, activities such as counselling sessions, interacting with the elderly through care homes and so on are also part of SMART. This initiative is expected to help them overcome the traumas they may have faced of social, economic and/ or emotional exclusion or of other unpleasant experiences.
Jayaraj has also initiated the project called the Birds Club International through Jayaraj Foundation, which is yet another effort for the welfare of individuals while preserving and protecting the environment. He has to his credit a book based on the mentally challenged actor, Vavachan, who is constantly featured in his films.
Veeram is produced by Chandramohan D. Pillai and Pradeep Rajan under the banner of Chandrakala Arts.
Chandramohan D. Pillai is with the International Bank of Qatar as Assistant General Manager and Head, Administration & Facilities. A seasoned lyricist, short story writer and commentator, art and creatives have been a part of Pillai since boyhood. Mr. Pillai acted in plays and directed during his college days and was an active organiser of cultural events with the Banagalore Malayali Samajam. Still he participates in competitions and bring accolades home. He has to his credit an album titled ‘Mazhaneer Kanangal’ (Rain Drops) composed by the music maestro late V. Rajamani. Through his first attempt in film production Mr. Pillai is bringing the most expensive film in Malayalam filmdom.
Pradeep Rajan has been responsible for business strategy at Jersey Group, Qatar, as its CEO for 10+ years and more recently as CEO Emeritus. Pradeep is multifaceted - hobby farmer,educational philanthropist by calling, strategic thinker by nature, and industrial engineer by training.
